Competitive
This group is for divers who have mastered all the necessary skills from Future Champions 2 and are ready to start progressing those skills into real dives with the goal of competing at the Junior Olympic Level.
Skills Necessary to Enter:
- Attention to detail and correct body shape throughout all basic skills and modeling without the need for correction from a coach.
- Ability to receive and learn from coaches' corrections
- Solid understanding of the different diving directions, which skills are used for each and the ability to demonstrate (Dryland model) the different takeoff sequences for each.
- Ability to model all takeoffs, including back press and 1-step hurdle without guidance
- Readiness to learn competition level dives and willingness to work through the fear associated with those dives.
- Commitment to coming to practice, working hard and treating coaches with respect
Goals of this Group:
- Full Approach in all four directions with proper board and arm timing for that direction
- Front/inward/back/reverse
- Hurdle or back press with an arm swing appropriate to the dive direction
- Tuck dives in all directions on 1m with proper approach (101C, 201C, 301C, 401C)
- Front flip on 1m (102C)
- Back flip on 1m (202C)
- Introduction to the concept of twisting:
- Dryland modeling to learn correct arm patterns and twist sequencing
- Tuck dives in all directions on 3m, starting with standing and working up to a full approach (101C, 201C, 301C, 401C)
- Lineups on 5m
- Learn correct approach/takeoff for each direction on platform (Starting with jumps)
- Demonstrate correct body positions throughout dives:
- Takeoff position
- Tuck/Pike/Straight in air
- Comeout sequence
- Lineup position
- Entry and underwater save
- Understanding and ability to demonstrate a 'Rip'
- Jumps off 10m
