Dive Numbers

Below you will find dive numbers and their meaning, from straight jumps to twisters.

The First Number:

0 = none (jump to feet)

1 = half (dive to the head)

2 = single flip

3 = 1 1/2 flips

4 = Double

5 = 2 1/2 flips

6 = triple

7 = 3 1/2 flips

8 = Quadruple

9 = 4 1/2 flips

Skill Dives:

100B = Front Jump Pike


200A = Back Jump Straight


001A = Front Lineup Straight


002C = Back Lineup Tuck

Common Dives:

101A = Front Dive Straight

201B = Back Dive Pike

301C = Reverse Dive Tuck

401B = Inward Dive Pike

102B = Front Flip Pike

202C = Back Flip Tuck

302B = Reverse Flip Pike

401C = Inward Dive Tuck

203C = Back 1 1/2 Tuck

The Second Number:


This is kind of a placeholder for dives that don't include a twist. When dives include a twist, the second number will tell you the dive direction.

The Third Number:


Tells you how many half flips are in the dive.

The Fourth Number:

(only for twisting dives) Tells you how many half twists are in the dive.

1= Half twist


3= 1 1/2 twists


5= 2 1/2 twists


7= 3 1/2 twists


9= 4 1/2 twists

2= 1 twist


4= 2 twist


6= 3 twists


8= 4 twists

5 means that the dive is a twisting dive.

The letter at the end:

Tells you the position of the dive.

A= Straight


B= Pike


C= Tuck


D= Free (only for twisters)

Letter: Free Position

Commonly called by number.

Front 1 1/2 Pike

Commonly called by number.

Front 1 1/2 Full Twist in a Free Position

Twister Examples:

5122D: Front flip full twist (5= twist, 1= front, 2= 2 half flips (1 full) 2= 2 half twists (1 full))

5231D: Back 1 1/2 flips 1/2 twist (5= twist, 2= back, 3= three half flips or 1 1/2 flips, 1= 1 half twist)

"D" position is only used on twisters.

(A, B, C) changes positions

Tells you the direction of the dive.


1= Forward

2= Backward

3= Reverse

4= Inward

5= Twister

6= Armstand
